Study Report on New York Pre-Clerkship Medical Training Program

HIDEO TAKAYAMA
I could think about the differences in medical engineering, biological engineering, and medical economy between the U.S. and Japan. Japanese doctors and researchers told me about the electronic health record system, research equipment, and healthcare insurance system. I felt the electronic health record system in the U.S. is more convenient than that in Japan for both doctors and patients because the system in the U.S. is intended to deal with the subject extensively, clearly, and quickly. I thought research equipment in the U.S. is close to that in Japan as far as the instruments go. This may have something to do with the fact that laboratories in the U.S. use their enormous wealth to raise labor costs. I thought the insurance system in the U.S. is less beneficial to everyone than that in Japan because people in the U.S. have to pay high insurance cost and always have to mind their insurance coverage. They cannot choose which hospital to go to because of their particular insurance coverage. What is even worse, there are a lot of people in the U.S. who cannot receive sufficient medical treatment.
This program gave me a lot of opportunities to think about international communication, my future plan, and healthcare. I really appreciate my teachers, classmates, and parents supporting me to have this amazing experience. I would like to apply what I have learned to my future. I would like to keep thinking about international communication and healthcare, and I would also like to keep studying medicine both in Japanese and in English.
