Report of Medical English program in New York

Then, we had a tour of the Mt. Sinai Hospital. Mt. Sinai School of Medicine is one of the oldest medical colleges in America. We met medical students who were studying there and visited the laboratory of Dr. Morishita, an expert of the critical period and pathology mechanism of brain development. We also visited the laboratory of Dr. Hoshino, who researches exosomes derived from cancer cells. These meetings allowed us to touch the most advanced studies in the world and learn about building a career in the United States. Since we Japanese people have little opportunity to use English in daily life, our ability of speaking English is terrible, making it a big handicap for us in the international world. That’s why I think it is encouraging for us to know that there are a lot of Japanese researchers active in NY.

また、Mt. Sinai Hospitalでは全米でも最も古い医科大学であるMt. Sinai School of Medicineで現地の医学生が医学を学ぶ様子を見学したり、脳発達の臨界期とその病態メカニズムの研究を行っている森下先生のラボを訪れたり、研究所の方々と交流をさせて頂きました。加えて、がん細胞に由来するエキソソームについての研究を行っている星野先生のラボも見学させて頂き最先端の研究に触れるとともに、アメリカでキャリアを積むということについて学びました。私たち日本人は普段英語を使う機会がほとんどないので、英語が話せないことは大きなハンディキャップとなりますが、こうして多くの先生方がNYで活躍されていることを知り、大きな励みとなりました。
