After finishing New York Training

In the second half of the training, I had the opportunity to visit a hospital of a Japanese doctor working in the United States. I had a chance to visit the department of gastroenterology and ophthalmology. Because I want to be a gastroenterologist, the difference between US and Japan such as the number of cameras, if they use anesthesia or not, and so on was interesting. Also, I felt that American patients talk more actively than Japanese patients. I think it’s a cultural difference. As the examination was often done in English, it was a good model to learn how the contents I learned so far were used in the actual medical interview.

研修の後半では、アメリカで働いている日本人医師の病院に訪問させていただく機会があった。私は、消化器内科と眼科を見学させていただいた。消化器内科医を志している私にとって、アメリカと日本での内視鏡のカメラの数や、麻酔の有無などの違いは非常に興味深かった。またアメリカの患者は日本の患者よりも積極的に話す人が多いように感じ文化の違いを実感した。また診察は英語で行われることが多かったので、それまでに学習していた内容が実際の現場でどのように用いられているか学ぶことができ、良いお手本となった。
