After finishing New York Training

In Pace University's medical English and medical interview training, I was instructed by Professor Janis, a nurse and experienced ESL teacher. She taught us English words and phrases used in medical interviews.　At first, the teacher said the name of the disease, and a person who came up with English for the symptoms related to the disease announced it. In this way, we studied medical English words. It became a two-person group, divided into patients and doctors, and we practiced medical interview. Practice gradually upgraded. In practice, the teacher carefully corrected our English words, pronunciation, and phrases if there were mistakes. While repeating such exercises, I realized that the contents that I felt were very difficult at the beginning gradually became more accessible for me . Since the content of the questions was much the same as that of Japan, I feel that it also became a study of medical interview in Japan.

Pace universityの医学英語、医療面接のトレーニングでは、１日目から３日目までは看護師でALTの経験もあるJanis先生に医療面接で基本となる医療英単語やフレーズを教えていただきました。行ったのは医療面接の際に聞くべき内容とそのときにどのような英語表現を使うかについてです。自分たちが考えた疾患に関連する症状に関する英語を思いついた人から手を挙げて発表するという英単語の学習から始まり、２人組となり患者と医師役に分かれて、医療面接をする練習まで、徐々にレベルアップをする形でした。練習の際は、英語単語や発音、フレーズについて間違えがあると先生が丁寧に訂正してくださいました。このような練習を繰り返しているうちに、最初は非常に難しく感じていた内容も少しずつ行えるようになってきているのを実感しました。医療面接の際に患者さんに質問する内容は日本と同じ部分も多かったので、日本での医療面接の勉強にもなったと感じています。
