We simulated medical examination in English with actors who were specialists in it. They provided us with medical English phrases and many tips on examination during our actual examination simulations.
There were several surprising things in this 3-day experience. For example, nurses were permitted to perform a number of medical treatments in the US that they could not perform in Japan. Also, many doctors in NY could speak Spanish and English, and there were more AIDS patients than I expected …. I really thought “Seeing is Believing”.

実際に医療面接専門のアクターに対して医療面接のシュミレーショントレーニングを行いました。医療面接時に使用される語彙の確認やレクチャーと、医療面接のアドバイスを、各症例からフィードバックを受け学習するシステムです。
実際の診療を見学して驚いた事は山ほどありましたが、その中で３つ挙げるとすれば、看護師さんの診療可能範囲が日本と比較して格段に広いこと、スペイン語ができないことにはNYでは診療が成り立たないこと、そして、AIDS患者さんの想像を超える多さでしょうか。「百聞は一見に如かず」をひしひしと体感した3日間でした。
